NEVADA FINE-GRAINED VOLCANIC (FGV) TOOLSTONE SOURCE CATALOG

The development of FGV studies in Nevada are associated with a variety of different factors - our longstanding Lake Tahoe region FGV investigations, several thesis projects from the University of Nevada (Reno), a couple of power transmission line projects in east-central Nevada, and some spillover from source studies at the Utah Test and Training Range in western Utah. Trace element analyses of a large number of FGV artifacts from northern Nevada indicate that Steamboat Hills, Coyote Spring, and Smith Valley were the most intensively-utilized of the bunch during the prehistoric period.
