Fine-Grained Volcanic (FGV) Source Reference Universe
THE FGV SOURCE UNIVERSE: When it come to the geochemical characterization of fine-grained volcanic toolstone materials, not all sources are created equal. Some are useful for provenance studies (homogeneous trace element composition and distinguishable from other regional sources) and some are not. The FGV sources listed below include everything that we have in the laboratory FGV source reference database at the present time.
The sources listed below in bold are those that trace element investigations indicate are particularly suitable candidates for archaeological provenance studies and that appear in the archaeological record. It is only these sources that we are attempting to correlate with characterized FGV artifacts. |
