TOROWEAP, GRAND CANYON NORTH RIM, ARIZONA

A North Rim view of the Grand Canyon from about as far as a person can get to at the Toroweap viewpoint. The dark basalts that flow down the north side of the canyon not far south of this point originate from volcanic vents associated with Uinkaret Volcanic Field. Vulcan's Throne, a prominent 800 foot-high cinder cone that is part of the volcanic field, can be seen peeking above the rim.
