FORT ROCK, FORT ROCK BASIN, SOUTH-CENTRAL OREGON
Above: The view from the interior of Fort Rock, a Pleistocene tuff ring that was created when rising magmas interacted explosively with ground water. Wave-cut benches are found along the lower margins of the structure, the results of wave action in the large pluvial lake that use to cover a large portion of the Fort Rock Basin. Nearly 40 related tuff rings, tuff cones, and maars occur in the Fort Rock Basin.
Below: Fort Rock rises above the previous floor of the lake.
