OBSIDIAN CLIFFS UPPER PLATEAU, HIGH CASCADES, OREGON

The view from the upper plateau of Obsidian Cliffs, one of Oregon's most important prehistoric sources of obsidian. The plateau is covered by literally millions of flakes and nodules of obsidian. A perennial spring that feeds Obsidian Creek (and Obsidian Falls) is located close by and this area was likely a regular summer destination for thousands of years for prehistoric groups from central Oregon.
